The Gobi and Terelj National Park tour

This Mongolia tour offers an excellent introduction to this extraordinarily beautiful country, visiting the nation’s capital Ulaanbaatar, famous Gobi Desert and stunning Terelj National Park as well as plenty of visits to Mongolian nomadic families.

Located in the landlocked plateau of Central Asia between China and Russian Siberia, Mongolia is the 19th largest country in the world. Mongolia’s considerable size includes a great range of pristine landscapes and a nomadic people whose lives are unaffected from the days of Genghis Khan.

Day 1. Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, enjoy a half day city tour of the nomadic capital: Genghis monument, Gandan Monastery & National Museum. Stay overnight at Hotel Kempinski or similar. L/D

Day 2-4. Take the flight to the Gobi Desert (1.5 hr), visit the Glacial Gorge of Yoliin Am, Mongolia’s largest sand dunes so called the Singing Dunes: enjoy camel riding, nomad family visiting and exploring dinosaur remains at the Flaming Cliffs. Stay at renowned Three Camel Lodge for 3 nights. B/L/D

Day 5-6. Flight back to Ulaanbaatar, upon arrival transfer to luxury Terelj Hotel in spectacular Terelj National Park for 2 night stay. Visit the Temple of Meditation and Turtle Rock as well as the Mongolia’s biggest landmark Giant Genghis Monument. Horse riding, hiking available. B

Day 7. Return to Ulaanbaatar, visit the Bogd Khan’s Palace, see a traditional folklore concert by magical Tumen Ekh ensemble. Farewell dinner at Mongolian barbeque. Hotel Kempinski or similar. B/L/D

Day 8. Departure from Mongolia. B

The Gobi Desert might be the namecard of Mongolia after mighty Genghis Khan - this enormous desert - the Mongols take pride in the Gobi Desert as this part is considered to be the most beautiful part of the Gobi desert.

The Naadam festival is the biggest celebration of test of courage, strength, dexterity, and marksmanship of Mongol nomads. Naadam takes place on 11-12 July and features "Three Manly Sports": wrestling, horse racing and archery.

This month's featured accommodation is Steppe Nomads tourist ger camp in serene Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve. The nomadic style eco camp offers 24 roomy and comfortable Mongolian gers, along with tasty dishes and a good range of wine and a great range of activities.
